When John finally moves out with his bride, their widowed mother insists they take in a boarder. Maggie is against it, but mother prevails and Buddy McCormack, a slightly simple minded, good natured young man moves in
He develops an attachment to sugar and vinegar Maggie. His awkward wooing slowly melts her heart and she blossoms, but family and social pressures and her own fears dampen Maggie's desire until she reluctantly rejects Buddy
