Anne Commire

Published by Samuel French Inc

2 Male 6 Female

The story is about friendship and about dying. It centers on the relationship between Ellis, a film maker whose career is just beginning to take off when she learns she has terminal cancer, and her best friend Lynne. Lynne puts her own life and career on hold to care for Ellis, as she struggles valiantly to accept the inevitable reality of her death and to die with dignity

"Painfully moving.... Worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as Marsha Norman's, Night Mother and Edward Albee's All Over. It deals fearlessly with the subject of living with, and dying of, cancer. It's a deeply rewarding experience. There's a staunch bravery about the play that is exhilarating rather than depressing" ~ Variety

"Forcefully shows how a terminal illness can be almost as devastating to a devoted caretaker as to the stricken person. [It's] strongest element is its sense of documentary fidelity [as] it captures the terrible uncertainties and roller coaster ups and downs of fighting the disease" ~ N.Y. Times

"Laced with humor.... Well structured.... Most important, Commire's compelling dialogue and situations ring absolutely true" ~ N.Y. Daily News
