Elderly and ailing Mr Dalrymple has done well for himself and so speculation arises as to how his wealth is to be distributed amongst his three granddaughters. Neurotic Peggy is driven to take drastic steps and becomes fatally involved with the old-man's self-seeking male nurse. Her misdeeds come back to haunt her in an ending which is tragic, eerie and ironic.
