A flamboyant psychiatrist. A suicidal judge. Her self-centered ex-boyfriend. And the two ghosts who torment her, including the judgmental grandmother who raised her. When they all come together, each must confront some discomforting realities.
The story is framed as an unorthodox therapy session, played out in real time, in which the five characters enact various fantasy scenarios. Thus, each has the opportunity to assume contrasting roles in the context of some decidedly zany situations.
This comedy-drama is on one level an unsettling portrait of illegal abortion and the lives it shatters (though the play does not assume a stance on the issue of abortion in general). More broadly, it deals with regret and redemption; and the difficulty of developing a constructive conscience without being plagued by guilt.
